Adult Forum Looks Ahead to 2017
In 2017 the Adult Forum will be getting underway with Fr. Barry leading us in a discussion of the Gospel lesson for each Sunday. Parishioners who have heard the sermon at 9:00AM are invited to come and join in with those who attend 11:00AM and have not heard the sermon yet.
Following this series, we will read Living Into God's Dream: Dismantling Racism in America edited by Catherine Meeks. This volumes includes two and one half chapters by Catherine along with essays by Bishop Robert Wright and several other contributors. This is the book that the Commission is using for the Diocesan Book Study in 2017. It includes a study guide and is intended to help in fostering a 21st Century discussion on race which acknowledges the gains that have been made and the challenges yet to be faced.
When this study is completed the Adult Forum will take up the issue of immigration. Guests speakers who can inform us about many aspects of immigration will be invited to speak to our class and lead us in a discussion. It is our intention to learn the facts that go beyond the typical sound bites that are so often heard in the daily news feeds.
These three topic areas will lead us forward beginning the second Sunday in January and will conclude in early to mid summer.
If there are issues and areas that you would like to see the Adult Forum engage please don't hesitate to let us know. Mary Job 770 478 6561 or Catherine Meeks 770 371 0527
Kids deliver to Rainbow House
St. Augustine’s kids were able to deliver approximately 76 individual canvas tote bags (filled a towel, toothpaste / toothbrush, hair brush & combs, soap, and deodorant), 60 twin sheets sets, and other assorted toiletries to Rainbow House. This was significant as Rainbow House provides temporary shelter for abused, neglected, and abandoned children.
Thanks for all the adult help, especially to Laura Henderson for hauling all the items in her truck.
It was a great day!
If you took a black canvas tote bag, but were unable to fill it by the deadline, please return the bag to the church. We can use for future events.
